The Tallest Sand Dune™️ & the Blue Dress

A visit to Great Sand Dunes National Park was on Rochelle’s bucket list and Melissa was willing to go along with the chaotic schedule Rochelle had pieced together. Armed with a camera, outfits tucked away in backpacks, and a sense of adventure, they began the climb upward. Rochelle had planned on taking a self-portrait among the dunes. While she did take the self-portrait, Melissa proved to be a more inspiring muse, allowing Rochelle to be where she likes it best: behind the camera.

After taking both the self-portrait and the first batch of Blue Dress photos, Rochelle managed to convince Melissa to climb to the top of the Tallest Sand Dune™️. Aka Star Dune. It was… a challenge. Two steps forward, five slippy, sliding, sandy steps back and so, so many stops to catch their breath under the guise of enjoying and photographing the view. However, they are both stubborn and determined individuals, and made it to the ridge line.

At the top, the proverbial lightning of inspiration struck. Rochelle pointed out to Melissa that this was a fantastic place for another round of Blue Dress photos. Melissa was a willing participant and quickly agreed, managing to gracefully change clothes on top of the Tallest Sand Dune™️.

Rochelle was happily taking more stunning Blue Dress photos of Melissa when they noticed looming clouds on the horizon. Melissa pulled off another full change of clothes, but she could not find her smart watch. They both searched frantically for the watch, digging in the sand and trying to see if it had fallen down the dune. At some point, Melissa looked up from the search and realized that the storm was coming in FAST. It was time to cut any losses and descend the Tallest Sand Dune™️ as quickly and safely as possible.

Peals of laughter drew the attention of other park adventurers as Melissa and Rochelle raced down the dunes. They made it back to the car, and Melissa found her watch while digging the keys out of her backpack! As luck would have it, lightning struck again, but not the metaphorical kind. Even better, the lightning did not strike them since they were in the car, and not on top of Tallest Sand Dune™️.

Task failed successfully.
